I have look into you are indeed correct, wikipedia not always the most reliable source, will have to add that extra info at some point to his wikipedia page.
Some quotes from the man himself, too bad there no one his quality on commentary anymore.

To find someone who been heel or face for entire career seem near impossible. I guess you can find a few once they get big with certain gimmick they stay heel or face for the rest career. But before then they probable tried one or the other to see which works best on them.

he wasnt always a heel when raven - he did have a face run in 2001, albeit a few months.

Really, I cant imagine Raven being a face, it just doesnt work.
What about people like Nikolai Volkov and The Iron Shiek, were they ever faces ?, Shiek had a monster heel run during the iraq war period. I know he`s been around for years and he prob did had a face periiod at some time

it wasnt by design, he was just getting so over with his hardcore matches that they had him feud briefly with eddie guerrero - they were going to have him win the european title, but someone had a change of heart and instead they kept him in the hardcore division, and matt hardy got the euro title run instead.
im not sure about the shiek, he may have been in his younger days - as for nikolai, he was a major heel in the early to mid 80s, but then turned face in the late 80s- early 90s and teamed with hacksaw duggan a lot - wearing both the usa and soviet flags on his pants.
he then turned heel again for the million dollar corporation in 1995, but he was treat like a lackey, and turned face again before dropping off the radar.
