Graphics Card

I am looking at getting Pro Evolution Soccer 6 for the PC, as well as other games which require a good graphics card.

Could somebody tell me the best graphics card to get for a reasonable amount of money.

Thanks

Re: Graphics Card

agp or pcie?
do you prefer ati or nvidia?
price range?
how much system memory and what kind?
once you know the above its plain sailing, m8t.

But for a replacement agp you have to wait for stock but it's worth it -

For £50 gr8 price. Geforce 6600 GT cpu

I have seen this Graphics Card on Play.
I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200,

I have 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard drive and Pentium 4, 3.00GHz

Is this a good graphics card to get would you think, and would it allow me to play all the newish games on?

Thanks

Re: Graphics Card

I always get a bit confused when it comes to graphics cards. I don't play games but watch some movies etc. I think I could do with a decent sound card too!

Think I'll wait till I upgrade my PC when I eventually know what I want.

Hope you get some advice from somewhere

Re: Graphics Card

Are you wanting to spend the best for your Buck?
And is £40 around the price you want to spend,
I have used a 5200 9200 5500 5550 9600 5600
but the difference in performance is worthy for 5600 9600
but not great.
There is a great increase in the more modern styles x class x600 is equal to a good 5600
but x800 6600 and x850 are vastly better
the older equivalent is a 9800

I am putting my old 9800 pro in my sisters PC or you would have had dibs,
my mum and dads PC has a PCIE5550
its ok but Battlefield 2 demo is a bit chunky looking.

It may sound a long way round but changing to a PCIE motherboard gives far better performance by using better bandwidth and other odd sounding stuff,
and pcie gfx cards are cheaper than agp equivalents.

SAPPHIRE - RADEON 9550 256MB AGP
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/468869
so £40 @ PC World lets say you had a member of the family who worked for the NHS
this would get you 5% off
NHSDIS3107

but the £50 play is far better.

Any queeries and i'll respond, although to the dude who likes the movie watching etc homerpovey there is a fx5600 with allinone analoguetv for about £33 knocking about if you can google it.

Re: Graphics Card

Oh dude, did I call u dude.... not a camels penis the other.......
city worker gone to country to act out a cowboy life,

anyhow 8800?
don't do it, Ati and that multiconglomerate gigati uber company now make gfx and it means Ati will be pushing out cheaper faster hotter cooler? gfx
they will be able to build the core stations whenever they like, before they could only afford 1 or 2 on the go at once so were stuck for using the same cores until they paid the bank its owings.
It means 2 or 3 years ahead Ati will be the only gfx maker, yes the multiconglomerate will be bigger than most governments and have more power,
bad, v.bad

I use a XFX 7800GTX its fine for todays games, my mate is borrowing my other
(makes mine Sli)
until a game comes out I cannot run on full settings
My download pc uses a AGP X850XT
and is pretty impressive for games too,
tata.

I'm not sure what the PES6 requirements are, but if you're looking for a card that can play new/fairly good games anything below a 9800pro or x1600 isn't much good (thats if you're on agp). If you can go pci-e you can get better for cheaper, or go for a geforce card. The 9550 isn't going to do you any favours though. I vote x1950pro agp all the way ;)

Re: Graphics Card

I've had more than a fair share of stability issues (lockups, VPU resets, weird display corruption, etc.) with ATI in machines over the years so I tend to buy/recommend nVidia cards and have been so far reasonably well served though their drivers aren't always great. It's a real shame that the market only has room for two major players as :(

Although the Play item is extremely good (I've one of those cards myself) I doubt they'll get anymore as it's an old model. These days the best value/performance I reckon is a GeForce 7600GT AGP from Scan - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=499563 @ £113.96 inc VAT + del

It'll give the 7800GS a damn good run for it's money :)

This card is err... pretty rubbish so avoid if you can :) Any card that can be sold without active cooling (fan, heatpipe) really isn't going to be a great gaming card!

Aso, just looking at your shooting games thread.... The FX5200 is too lowley to play Far Cry with any of the [must have] detail on show so yep it's time to ditch it :) The 7600GT I suggested would do great however - look at this review -> http://xtreview.com/review140.htm for example.
