Xbox 360/HD Drive help

My mate has got an Xbox 360 with an add on HD DVD drive, however, when he tries to watch HD discs on it, the picture appears really small in the middle of the TV screen (the opening credits seems to appear fine) and he can't watch them. Games and DVD work on his console fine and he has the console plugged in (from what i can gather) via the bog standard composite leads into an older TV. Anybody know what he could be doing wrong?

What resolution does he have it set to output at?

Also there should be a way to change the resolution of what you are watching with the options key during playback. Settings such as native, letterbox and a couple of others.

Why it would only be with HD-DVD though, I do not know as I would assume that one wrong setting would apply to SD DVD too.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that you can't play HD-DVD discs through a composite connection?

I heard somewhere that the discs have digital rights encoded onto them which requires a digital connection to work?

I'm probably talking crap.

Dude I second wilko. I read that too quickly. HD-DVD will only play HD on a HD compatible TV via component or HDMI.

lol Thanks for the help guys. I did thin kit might be something to do with that and it's make sense seen as the opening credits which they don't perhaps encode but the film goes tiny. i'll tell him not to be so cheap and buy a new tv
