Logitech Harmony Remotes

Has anyone had any experience with the Logitech Harmony 555 remote? I've got a One4All at the moment and the wife doesn't like it so thought I'd try one of the Logitechs. The step-up price-wise from the 555 to the 885 is a bit too large for me i think, £60 for the 555 is about as much as I can go for at the moment.

I would be interested in any thoughts on this. I've tried about 6 different all-in-one remotes, spending over £200 in the process, and I haven't yet found one that is satisfactory.

Re: Logitech Harmony Remotes

I have a logitech harmony 525 which i use to control a tv, av reciever, dvd recorder, freecom media player and my lights. It all works great except (and i'm sure i can change this if i have a look) when i press the off button which switches everything off together it changes the 'sound' setting on my av reciever. Works fine for everything else. Is one or 2 things that are a little bit fiddlier to do on the dvd recorder than with it's own remote, which again could probably put right if i went through the setup/adjust process, but for how often i have problems, i'v not bothered just yet. Depends on wether you want to faff setting it all up correctly or not i think :)

Re: Logitech Harmony Remotes

Cheers sheepy, that sounds promising. I think the more expensive remotes are more geared around 'activities' i.e. press one button and a whole lot of different things happen at once. That would be a handy function, but I also need to be able to control individual devices.

I've cashed in all my amazon vouchers from doing online questionaires and have ordered the Harmony 555. It should be with me by the end of the week so I'll let you know how I get on with it Wilko.

Re: Logitech Harmony Remotes

OK got the Harmony 555 through yesterday. Got it home and ended up fiddling with it all night! Firstly the quality of the remote is very good. Solid feel to it with a quality finish. The software that it comes with to help set it up is pretty good and I can see that when I've got it set up properly it'll be a great remote, but fine tuning it can take a while. There is a harmony support line that's supposed to very good and I think I'll end up ringing them with the couple of little niggles that I have. Apparently my TV is notoriously difficult to control with a Harmony. It's all to do with switiching inputs and Toshibas do it differently to other TVs or something.
