Re: Router Problems

First of all you need to have a fixed IP address on the PC (or PC's) that you are using to download.

Do this by going to the settings of the network connection (right click the icon in the system tray, select status then propertie). Select the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) setting and click properties. Change the "obtain an IP address automatically" to "Use the following IP address". Enter an IP address of your choice (your router will probably be 192.168.1.1, so a good choice for the first PC would be 192.168.1.2). The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. The default gateway will be the IP address of your router (probably 192.168.1.1). Change the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" to "Use the following DNS server address" and enter your router IP in the first box.

Repeat the above on each PC that will be used for downloading.

Now fire up the admin tool of your router (usually by using a web browser pointed at the IP address of the router).

Go to the "virtual servers" or "port forwarding" section. Enter the IP address of the PC, followed by the port number assigned to the P2P application on that PC.

NOTE: EACH PC MUST USE A DIFFERENT PORT NUMBER FOR THE SAME APPLICATION. For example, if PC1 uses port number 3074 for Azureus, PC2 must use something different such as 3075.

You may alsoneed to specify the port numbers and IP address under "special applications" if your router has such a setting.

Re: Router Problems

cheers for the help Wilko, still can't get it to work. I think its something to do with the router, my router page doesn't have any of that port forwarding or virtual servers, so not sure how to get the router to open up lol

never mind will keep on looking

To open up ports on the Netgear, I think its in "Services" menu on the router page.

I use the same router with Azureus and dont have any ports open, with Sky so have a dynamic IP.

If I get the firewall error on Azureus (and I often do!), I just reboot it the router from the router homepage in "Diagnostics" menu, then restart Azureus

Kev, your dynamic IP from SKY is only on the INTERNET side, your local LAN address will be different. So your router's WAN (internet) address amy be something like "62.56.113.140" but it's internal LAN address may be something like 192.168.1.1. The LAN address is how your router identifies which PC to forward packets of data that it receives from the internet, because basically two or more PC's could be using the same WAN address (in this case 62.56.113.140).

But sometimes you don't need to forward ports if only one PC is connected to the router - it should resolve itself.

Re: Router Problems

Hey KeyserSoze,

Not sure f you still need help but if your still having some troubles with this here is how you set up your firewall with a Netgear DG834G,

1) Log in to the web managment of the router
2) Go To Services
->Add Custom Service
->Name it 'Azureus' (if you want!)
->Type = 'TCP'->start and finish port set to whatever you want them to be, then apply.
3)Now go to firewall rules-
>Inbound Services click on 'Add Rule'
->Select the service 'Azureus' from the service dropdown
->Select Allow Always
->under 'send to LAN user' enter you IP address, then click apply.
(You can obtain your IP by clciking on start->run-type 'cmd'->from this command prompt type in 'ipconfig /all' the enter->depending on how your connected to the network (cable=LAN, Wireless=Wireless!) the IP address is here. You don't have to be static as once the router dishes an IP address out on DHCP it will 8 times out of 10 give the same one again.
4) Do the same for Outbound if you like
5) Done! Well in Theory computers have thier own logic!!

Hope that helps, if you need some screenies I will add some in.

Two people were arrested recently for stealing internet connectivity. It's illegal unless you have the permission of the bill payer.
