Re: free virus scan ???

I was recommended to use AVG AND Spybot.

I only get the odd message from Spybot, but I was advised that its well worth having. Together they seem to have kept me safe, but I have a harware problem, so my content is monitored as it comes, but I haven't been able to do a scan for quite a while, so

AVG is top of the pops for free virus protection / removal - use it in tandem with Zone Alarm and you should be pretty damn secure. Spybot is a protection / removal tool that you could use in addition to AVG and ZA. Spywareblaster (protection) and Ad-Aware (removal) are other one's I've used in addition in the past.

I use AVG virus scan and Zone Alarm firewall and have found both to be excellent. I use Spyware Doctor for spyware (obviously  ) but it's not free, though it is cheaper if you pay in $USD

Re: free virus scan ???

I find AD Aware picks up more Spyware/Malware than Spybot. I used to use AVG antivirus but currently use Aviva Free which is easier to use IMO. Also use IOBIT Advanced Windows Care which automatically fixes alot of system probs other than Spyware/Viruses. Another good piece of software is Dial-a-Fix which fixes things that aren't responding like Printers/USB's etc
It does this by turning off computer processes that aren't running properly, correcting them, then switching them back on, great bit of kit and childs play to use + Sygate Firewall as found Zone Alarm not as good

Re: free virus scan ???

Spybot picks up stuff AdAdare misses and vice versa, used in tandem they are a good package.

I'm sticking with tried and trusted stuff at present until Vista compatiable versions come out.
