The England footy thread (aka Capello's Lion's!)

New thread to discuss the (mis)fortunes of Maclarens reign as England manager. I never wanted Maclaren to be England manager, like a lot of others here, and I still don't want him. Unfortunately here's still here and will be for the duration so we're lumbered with him.

I watched the defeat against Spain and was very disappointed in the team selection and the 'what nearly happened' factor. I know he couldn't select the team he wanted but hey, these things are gonna happen. There were some major annoyances so I'll try and vent my anger ...oops, I mean thoughts.

1. Phil Neville!!! He's a midfielder (and not a very good one) so we'll put the right footer at left back.

2. Carrick, worst performance by him in an England shirt by a mile so he plays 90 mins.

3. We had 3 captains tonight. In my opinion, a captain should only be replaced if he's injured or get's sent off. Gerrard was playing quite well and so too was G. Neville, so why?

4. No flexibility in Maclarens peanut brain. He was going to bring on Carragher and Richards, we go a goal down, the tactical brain grinds to a halt and he decides to continue with the plan he set out 3 weeks ago regardless of events and continues to bring on the 2 defenders.

5. I think our defence of G. Neville, Ferdinand and Woodgate were excellent and can't really blame anyone for the wonderstrike of a goal. I'd have changed Barry for P. Neville and left it at that as our problems were going forward.

6. Wright Phillips isn't playing enough games at Chelski for him to be in the team. It's not fair on the lad.

7. The ref didn't like Crouchie

8. Downing would've been an excellent crosser of the ball tonight if the pitch was 20 metres longer.

9.We hardly put a sting of passes together or tested Casillas.

10. Maclaren is a twat.

There, I feel much better now. I don't go along with the 'it's only a friendly' attitude either.

Still, it could've been worse, I could've been supporting the Republic of Ireland! ...that was a little too close

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

yep Maclaren is a Twat lol

Phil Neville is a defender. When he was at Man Utd he often player either right back or left back, it was only when we had injuries in midfield he changed position..but still lol

I didn't really concentrate on the game (was sorting out my figures) as it was that entertaining..not.

as you said we didn't have a shot really and we didn't even look like creating any chances..

Its the muppet show and this weeks special guest star Steve maclaren yeyyyyyyyyyyy

Could not agree more Steve maclaren is not good enough to be a club manager let alone the England manager.
There was no creativity althought some of the players played reasonably well, I just cannot understand Maclaren,s methods like 6 subs used
When all them subs were used they seem to run around like headless chickens they were going no where same okd story for Englandthey cannot seem to keep possesion of the ball.

That notepad and pen he uses is it an autograph book
wonder if he uses a ckalkboard and chalk at halftime.
I will be very surprised if we qualify for the euro finals.at least i think i am correct in saying that Sven never lost a euro qulifier

Surely mr Beckham after last nights performance is surely still good enough for the subs bench at least it gives you other options.

Crap

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

Having followed England all over the world since 1988 I can safely say that McClaren (out out out) is the worst England manager since Graham Taylor and thats only because he didn't have the talent available to him.

Did you hear McClaren (out out out) in the post match interview going on about Dyer?

"He tried hard and never stopped running".

Feck me I could go out there and do that, I'm still poo. Thats me and Dyer then - twins.

He's a bad manager as the first thing he said was about missing loads of players - which might be true but it doesn't excuse a performance and lack of tactical nous I witnessed last night - he's worse than David O'Leary and thats saying something. No natural left footed midfielder started, Lampshade was anonymous on the left side and poo when he did move inside, P.Neville kept drifting infield and was ball watching for the goal (good as it was). Carrick - cak. Chelsea Sub - inaffective on the right.

It was crying out for a change in the formation as Crouch and Dyer just wasnt working - I'd have took Crouch off and put Defoe up there, but what does super McClaren (out out out) do - sits there chewing the collar of his coat.

Someone pass me the shotgun please.

I really have lost all interest in the team now after 19 years and feel like not bothering again until McClaren (out out out) is sacked.

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

He's got not idea on how to change a match as his substitutons proved. He's not a tactician which means we'll always have to rely on 'working hard' ( ) and a good old slice of luck to win games especially if they're not going our way. England have still got some good players despite the absencees so his excuses didn't wash with me. There was no balance or cohesion between most of the players and it was so boring to watch.

I'd rather Frankie Dettori managed our national footy team!

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

Thats what happens when the FA leak who they want (Scolari), watch that go tits up then panic, get criticised about not having an English manager or continuity by the press, interview good managers with a passion and brains i.e. O'Neill / Alladyce and then appoint someone who was 4th on their list. Makes perfect sense to me.

I hope we fail to qualify for the Euros - as 96 apart we've always done shite in them anyway. Then hopefully he'll get sacked or quit.

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

I want Maclaren to go but the only way that'll happen is if England are not winning anything, which he seems to be doing quite well at this so far. I don't want to see England become more of a laughing stock but it's inevitable with Macrapen in charge

...very dark times ahead

Players should also be ashamed of themselves seeing there getting paid thousands a week for being so called "worldclass" i've seen more skill and passion on a subbuteo pitch

If these are our so called best players then we are in deep trouble as with so many overseas players in our leagues theres no chance of finding or bring on any worldclass players and God dont we need them im looking at you Arsenal

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

This is what these so called world class players should do is get a performance bonus
Trouble is within 2 or 3 matches they would be down the dole office

Maclaren states that it was due to a lot of injuries yeah right steve.
If you look at the top premiership clubs most of them are not English so what is wrong with a foreign manager that can perform.

Sven,s record compared to a lot of Englands previous managers was very good why oh why did they have maclaren.
My idea is bring back Glenn hoddle and his faith healer and bring in Graham taylor in a coaching role
