Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

I have a idea to get these over paid so called footballers to play with pride and heart while they wear this country's shirt (England)
go and watch the England Rugby union team play see how they lay there bodies on the line for this country the pride they show while wearing the shirt with the English rose on the front is second to none
Thats what people expect while they watch England teams play, not bunch of so called worldclass players who never seem bothered or proud to play for England :?

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

Most clubs to try to keep a good english base to the team but it is becoming increasingly difficult for young players to break through. A lot of teams have decent academy's but unless they're exceptional (such are the stakes in footy) they're often loaned out to lower clubs or disappear into obscurity.

I believe some of the oversea's players have brought a lot of quality to the English game but as long as clubs have to pay over the odds for a half decent english player then I can understand managers looking over the waters.

But it's not good for the future of the national team, I agree.

Steve Gibsons a tool anyway. Anyone who gives some of the managers he's employed more and more money to waste on average never heard players with massive contracts has got to be one.

Yes the clubs are partly to blame, but then you look at the selection of Phil Neville and no naturally left sided player in the team t'other night and Lampshade playing annonymously there instead and you have to question who the real problem is. If he can't get players motivated to play for England (they shouldnt get paid at all other than win bonus's) either they shouldn't play for England at all or you have to question the managers abilities. Unfortunately these abilities are alarmingly non-existant.

One or two overseas player per team i think should be brought in,as all i see is when England play other countrys is that the players who play here know our game inside out and there at a greater advantage maybe

The mind boggles as to how much an English player would cost then, Emile Heskey for £20 million anyone

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

But surely there are a lot of quality young English players in the league
good idea to limit the number of foreign players in the league and this idea wouldnt half cut the wage bill :)

Re: The England footy thread (aka Maclarens muppet show!)

The problem is that you Uefa or Fifa cannot stop players moving within the EU. The freedom to work in another country cannot be over-ruled by footy top brass. Laws are laws and as such I don't see how limiting overseas players can ever happen in this day and age.
