I'm a bit cautious as although I think we are stronger at the back we haven't improved upfront yet and this could be our achilles heel this year. Stop Ashely Young and we tend to resort hoofing it to Carew. Gabby has no challenger for his place and seems to have settled into a doesn't matter what I do I'll still get picked mode. Harewood is no more than a super sub. I'd be happy with 5th-7th again and ecstatic if broke the top 4.

Just watched your sorry lot again v Sunderland and although you won (which is all that matters at this early stage) they were very poor. Only when Alonso came on did things start working. You'll still beat us with Gerrard and his glass legs breaking anytime anyone goes near him.

I missed the game as I was at work. That's bad news that we didn't play well though the 3 points more than make up for it. Not happy about the thought of Alonso leaving especially as the Barry deal looks dead in the water.

You have got a magnificent player there.

He never really got a chance at Newcastle. I'm not sure what the problem was - the last 3 managers (Keegan included) didn't seem to see what the fans could clearly see. That he was and is a quality player.

I'm sure I speak for all NUFC fans in wishing him good luck at Villa. He deserves it.

A comfortable stroll in the park versus a very poor Spuds last night. We could easily have had 5 or 6 and it was a nervy final 7 minutes.

The team work is getting better but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. Still need to improve if we are going to challenge the established names.

Yeah, I watched this last night with my villa-supporting father in law. Good match, and a very good Villa performance - however, was it because Villa played well, or because Spurs were so poor?

Spineless performance last night from our lot v the Toon. Full credit to them for stopping our midfield from playing not helped by a ref that tried his hardest to ruin the game and gave at least five unecessary bookings (mostly to them).

Must try harder and it's about time MON dropped some of his underperforming favourites.

To be fair, Newcastle were TERRIBLE in the first half, and the first 10 minutes of the second, then they were excellent.

Why can't they play like that all the time? It frustrates the hell out of me.

And Martins - usually he just can't be bothered.
