just you wait until you come down to "fortress" Glanford Park for the Carling Cup second round. You may beat newcastle but the Mighty Iron are a different prospect!!

Back from Barcelona - saw them thrash Bayern Munich 4-0 - what a stadium that is at 98000 capacity. Still prefer the Bernabeu (sp?) though.

Spainish telly is brilliant - never watched so much English (or foreign) footy. Managed to get to see the Arsenal game but missed our goal as I popped out to get some beer. No coverage of the Reading game but saw the Newcastle stroll  Cant believe its the same set of players as last year. O'Neill has got them working as a team already.

My Watford tickets have arrived so that will be my forst game this season. Cant wait to get down Villa Park and take up my usual seat.

Come on you Lions.

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Stilian Petrov from Celtic.

The Bulgarian international has signed a four-year deal at Villa Park and becomes the first signing for Martin O'Neill.

Villa have paid £6.5 million for Petrov which could rise to £8 million.

Premiership duo Portsmouth and Aston Villa have been reported as monitoring the 27-year-old's availability.

Former Boca Juniors sensation Tevez has been linked with a number of clubs across the continent ever since it became clear he was desperate to leave Brazil, with Roma, Manchester United, Chelsea, Milan, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid all believed to hold an interest.

The latest club to reportedly join the race is Aston Villa, with Randy Lerner's millions dramatically increasing their pulling power in the transfer market.

At 27 year old, he is in his prime - that the age when players are worth the most (in my opinion).

So £8 million isn't overpriced if he is a quality player.

I'm biased but I watch Petrov every week and he is a cracking player. He will be sadly missed at Celtic but I don't begrudge him his move to the Premiership - I wish him all the best. :)

PS believe me, if Petrov had been playing in the Premiership for the past 7 years as opposed to Scotland he would be worth rather more than £8 million...
