Congratulations Glasgow!

Congrats to Glasgow for winning the right to host the 2014 Commonwealth games.

Having spent several days in Glasgow over the last few weeks, I have to say my opinions of the city have changed. It's a far cry from the grotty city that I remember last time I visited (over 10 years ago), with lots of great bars and restaurants.

Thanks Wilko, on behalf of Glasgow.

I just hope it turns out to be a benefit and not a curse.

For ages now Glasgow has had some of the worst traffic problems - constant roadworks, a disasterous one way system which keeps getting worse (no back-up roads in the event of closures) and worst of all a motorway dependant on the busiest bridge in Europe, which has had structural problems for years and isn't being replaced.

But as a life-long Glaswegian I agree it has improved, although I don't think it was ever as bad as its reputation. Not always the most attractive city, but, although I'm biased, I still think its one of the friendliest - along with Newcastle actually.

Glad you had a good time here!

Back in Glasgow for the next 2 weeks (already been here for the past 2 weeks also!)

Have been enjoying it, but there's only so much you can do and I'm looking forward to being back home for a while. And that's not a slur on Glasgow, I hope you understand!
