Enjoyable start to the season you can always be sure of a great smallville season opener with big budget effects.
Loved the Superman nod Clark gave the kid after boiling the water from the damn
Only bad thing about smallville is how they wrap up every major season finale cliffhanger in the first episode....Zod (last season) and now Bizarro (maybe?) and Chloe
Shame Lana isn't dead.
Kara looks really cool, love the flying.
Yup agreed. I saw this last night, its a series that has grown on me over the years to the point where I got quite excited about this season opener (but thats my guilty secret dont go telling anyone :) ). I was almost believing Lana was actually dead as well and then they go and spoil it at the end. So I take it that the mysterious flying blondie is Supergirl, and does that mean they are gearing up for a spin off once Clark dons his cape and tights and heads out to Metropolis?
I remember reading an interview with Al Gough and he said they hope to get as many guest appearance's from former Superman actors/actresses as they can.
My Favourite obviously has been Christopher Reeve as Dr. Virgil Swann and Margot Kidder as Bridget Crosby.
Helen Slater (original Supergirl) is due to guest star in season 7 as Clark's Kryptonian Mother.
'Action'
One of my favourite episodes in a while, loved the warrior angel storyline mirroring Clark's destiny.
Perfect opportunity for Clark to fly with his Superman style rescue of Lana falling (wish it was Lois though would have been just like Superman The Movie) he should have let Lana fall, she still annoys me this season with the whole 'Im evil' storyline.
Nice to see Lionel back.
Big Smile at the end with the cape nod.
'Lara'
Loved the shot of Krypton at the start of this episode.
Helen Slater is still really stunning looking, loving all these cameos, hopefully they will get Terri Hatcher to appear.
Why doesn't Kara teach Clark to fly or why isn't he even trying, surely he should realise if Kara can fly than so can he.;)
And Clark swiped the crystal.
No spoilers, other than it involved the effect of Blue Kryptonite
which brings me to the real point of my post. I used to collect comics. Mainly Marvel but with the odd one or two from DC. In amongst the DC issues was one that looked at the various different types of Krytonite known at the time and their effects. It's interesting to see how things have changed in the series, I'm not sure about in the comics as it is years since I have bought any. So for anyone interested, these are from my memories of that comic:
Green Kryptonite: weakens and can kill Superman. Best known and arguably commonest variety.
White Kryptonite: no affect on Superman or Humans but destroys any type of Plant
Red Kryptonite: probably the most interesting variety. Every piece or form of Red K has a different, unique affect on Superman (or any other Krytonian for that matter). But the same piece will always have the same affect if encountered again.
Crystal Kryptonite: has no actual affect on anything but can be used as a portal of sorts by someone in the Phantom Zone to affect things in the regular universe. In the story, Kryptonian criminals arranged for Superman to be exposed to a piece of Jewel Kryptonite and then tried to trick him into thinking he was a danger to everyone by causing volatile things to explode when he passed by them (or was it Supergirl ? I'm honestly not certain but I do remember it was Jimmy Olsen who was tricked into bringing him/her into contact with the Kryptonite). The criminals could use heat vision through the crystal.
Blue Kryptonite: at the time had no known affect on anything.
Gold Kryptonite: the rarest form known. Exposure to Gold Krytonite would permanently rob SUperman or any other Krytonian of their super powers
They may have been other forms of Krytonite added since then but I don't know. I do hope this has been of interest to someone ;)
