When I'm on Firefox and using tabbed browsing I can see "Max" in the page "tab".

Ah, yes, I know what you mean now.

To get that image to display, we upload an image to our root directory - and I choose a cut down version of Max's head.

I think we'll leave the poor guy to retire gracefully in the tabs should we?

I no longer see "view first unread" link for each thread?
Maybe I'm not looking hard enough!

Certainly helps when re-visiting long threads.

I can see it in IE7 (it's an underlined arrowhead thingy) but it's really teeny tiny & a bit tricky to get my mouse to stay on it long enough to click. (doesn't help that my hands are twitchy as can be!) xx

Maybe it's a firefox thing?

I can see an underlined arrow next to the page numbers but that only takes me to the next page of the thread.

You can either click the 'quick links' on the left hand side below amazonwatch in the 'navigation' panel or there's a 'mark forums read' link at the bottom of main forum page (just below statistics)

Hope I haven't confused matters

We're planning on making the "quick links" a bit more accessible - maybe putting it in the navigation bar at the top.
