B1G1 - USA - Customs?

Hi,

I suspect this topic has been covered before. Anyway I would appreciate if anybody could tell me how the costums work with B1G1 offers.

P.E. : Item NR 1 ~ 35 USD

Item NR. 2 of same value FREE.

+ Shipping (10USD)

Do you have to pay costum duties now for

~ 45 USD (ITEM 1 ~ 35 USD + ITEM 2 FREE + Shipping)

or

~ 80 USD (ITEM 1 ~ 35 USD + ITEM 2 ~ 35 USD + Shipping)

Does the second item for costums keep it's original value?

I appreciate any insights on this topic!!

Thanks

Jilly

It depends what they put on their customs declaration, but technically it should just be $35 as that's the value of the goods you've paid for. Who are B1G1? I've never heard of them.

Hi,

Well, some US etailers make sales where 1 item is sold for the full price and the second one is for FREE... hence B1G1 means (as you might already know)

Buy 1 Get 1 FREE.

P.E. DDD has such a sale going at the moment.

Yeh, sorry, I always new it as BOGOF as well, but if you were purchasing from say DDD, they would put only the value of the highest priced product on the customs declaration. Hope that helps.

DDD also round down it down to a nice round sum so if say an item cost $35.77 and P&P was $8.75 all that is on the customs is $35. For the BOGOF offers they only put the price of one item on there and don't ever include the price of P&P.

Re: B1G1 - USA - Customs?

Has anyone any experience of Amazon.com for this?

I, and at least a couple of others on the forum, ordered King of Queens at BOGOF a few days ago. Mine were dispatched as 2 orders containing 2 sets, then, a day later, 2 sets were posted seperately. The seperate sets, posted later, arrived today, but both were market at $30. As they were posted individually it isn't a problem. But I'm beginning to suspect that the delay on the other sets might be customs and that they will be hit.

The paperwork for the individual sets are each marked with a promotional coupon of $15, but the price on the customs decleration is before this was deducted - $30. So its looking a little worrying. Deep Discount are always careful to mark the reduced price, and if they post seperately, 1 is marked full price and the other $0.

If Amazon have mucked this up, I'm not sure where we will stand. As I understand it, Customs is charged on the value, so, if its drawn to there attention, might they not judge the value of 2 $30 sets to indeed be $60 even if that is not what was paid? Do "promotional coupons" count as deductions from the taxable value?

And Amazon are always careful to say they aren't responsible for Tax. Obviously if they have marked the decleration wrongly, I would say that they have a moral obligation to make good, but I'd hate to argue it.

I hope I'm worrying prematurely, but it is looking a bit iffy, between the delay and the wrong declared value on the 2 received so far.

Whenever I order items from the State, they never arrive at the same time, there always seems to be a few days between recieving all the packets so it may just be this and like you say you are worrying prematurely.

However, I remeber reading somewhere else a while back a similar case, that when Amazon are declaring the value I believe they have to state the pre promo value. If you didnt recieve the DVD set and they declared it as $0 value, they cant claim the value back from the postal service.

Re: B1G1 - USA - Customs?

I agree the delay is proves nothing - delivery times do vary for no apparent reason. But their marking the pre-discount price on the individual sets does have me worried. Hopefully Amazon realise this and
won't be a problem - after all, the only reason for placing them as separate orders is too keep under the limit. Combining them would have saved a little on postage, and incurr only one PO admin fee!

It would be a sickening way to start the new year (and celebrate my first orders for months). Especially as the reliable Deep Discount now has the same offer.
