Amazon.com gift service

I'm looking to get a couple of boxsets from Amazon US, and wondered if selecting the gift message option at checkout would make any difference as to whether I would get charged customs or not. Has it worked?

The total price is $119 (£63), anyone have any idea how much in customs charges this would be if I were to get stung? How on Earth do you work out potential customs charges anyway?

Thanks

Re: Amazon.com gift service

I generally work out customs charges on a rough guideline of adding 25% of the price and then adding on the courier or Royal Mail charges, it's never failed me yet. As an example, boxset costs £20, roughly a fiver for customs/VAT plus £4 from RM and the total did come up to £28/£29 when I received it.

Courier fees range from £8-£20+ depending on which courier you use.

Re: Amazon.com gift service

I thought it was VAT, plus 4% plus £4 (RM, or 2% if courier)

My friends sets are coming via amazon.com, and I ticked the gift box. Every little helps
