CEX exchange shops

Anyone here use CEX either online of instore?

Popped into the Nottingham branch to purchase a copy of The Poseidon Adventure, advertised as £1.50 instore (through the website) only to find the price sticker said £2.50.

OK, so I take to cash desk, and the guy on the counter said "that's £4.50 please!" so I mention the price on the sticker and then he says "oh, err, sorry I can't sell it to you, it's not gone through the system"

What on earth I thought, if it was mis-priced surely he has to charge the price shown on the sticker, which is actually £1 more that they are supposed to charge anyway...

Quite often they can't find discs that are supposedly in stock , or they find the disc but the cases are missing...

Anyone else had similar experiences with these jokers?

not bought from there myself so not sure sorry, traded in quite a few things and generally got pretty good prices. anyone know if the leaflets they have instore for extra £1 trade in can be used in bulk? lol. got a few DVDs from uwish i tried sellign at car boot which i'm stuck with but cant sell(even tried ebay) and cex give from 60p to £1.60 for them, but obviously with an extra £1 on that it could work out better to trade in. Thinking of getting a ps3 from there but bit put off by them being second hand and no "real" warranty.

Sorry to hear about your crud experience mrfisher - I've used them a bit for trading, selling and buying, and has been hassle free every time. The discs are usually very good condition, whilst the packaging varies a bit. Was a bit silly not to pick up Beauty and the Beast 2-disc last time I was in CeX - fairly tatty case in places, but would probably still have been a bargain (at ~£25)...

For trade/sale they are the best I've come across yet - especially seeing as Blockbuster have become a joke in that regard - tried offering me £1.50 or something for at least 3 films, one of which was a 2-disc SE (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)!

yeah CEX can be good and bad, a very Jekyll and Hyde company.

selling to them no problems, buying is a different kettle of fish.

i try and avoid their stores - and fisher the nottingham one, well ive frequented that one on occasions and they were the only CEX that couldnt find a game for me that they had the box for - so it seems that store isnt as good as others.

you can get some bargains from them though - i recently got the Hulk 3 Disc Fist set from them which is OOP now and it was £2.00 with free delivery - ebayers would charge you more than that in postage alone.

also on the selling side they do give you great cash and credit for things - i sent them a couple of boxsets i got cheap from tesco for £17 each and they gave me £40 credit each, so the cost of £34 plus postage to them i had enough for a PSP Slim. Okay so it wasnt boxed, but its works fine, and they do give a 12 month warranty on anything bought from them, as long as you dont mess with firmware etc.

Be careful they're on the verge of going bump as staff aren't getting paid and one shop had the bailiffs in. As highlighted it's taking ages for people to get their cash which should make everyone take note.

Just done my second online order, got an email saying they couldn't supply ANY of the ten titles i'd ordered :-(

Popped instore again, this time they didn't allegedly have any cash, so were directing everyone to the cashpoint outside the shop, not politely, either....

Noticed also several region 1 titles on the shelves, naughty naughty ......

I've never bought anything from them, because I have found their staff to be incredibly rude and badly trained.

So maybe they are getting their just rewards by going out of business.

They were also pumping out "Uncle Fu*ka" from South Park over their stereo - no kids in the shop, but still!

It's illegal to sell video recordings in the UK that don't display BBFC ratings. The sales licences for the DVDs themselves also prohibit them from being sold outside of their intended territory, though that's relatively minor and no-one really bothers about that.
