Ebay problem re: delivery

I bought a set of Skype phones on ebay for a friend over a week ago, delivery was quoted at a standard service within 3 days.

When I didnt recieve in this time I emailed the seller to ask about it and they told me I had recieved it already confirmed by Royal Mail!

Sent a message back stating I hadnt recieved and could they provide the info of when and who signed for it, reply stated they dont know as it has been sent via Insured Standard parcels but had definately been delivered.

I am always hesitant to start paypal disputes but are they fobbing me off??

Yes, probably. Tell him you want to see the proof of delivery - he can get this from the royal mail for a fee.

Although it is also quite possible that he is telling the truth. I once had a major dispute with a buyer after she insisted that she hadn't received her DVD, even though I had sent it Recorded Delivery. After investigating and getting a copy of the signature and delivery times etc, it was clear to me that the postman had pocketed the item, scrawled an illegible signature on the delivery docket and made a time up. And what did the royal mail do? Nothing. Absolutely bugger all. And they also wouldn't pay up for the lost item, even though it was clearly fraudulent behaviour by their postman.

So - raise a paypal claim and get your money back.

I didn't think there was anything such as insured standard parcels? thought standard parcels were uninsured hence why they're slightly cheaper and only covered by the standard up to £36 amount?

Thats what I thought, but looking at the RM website you can pay extra for futher insurance. The bit that concerns me is they say Royal Mail have confirmed delivery, I dont think Standard parcels is a traked service?? Will speak to RM on Monday then start a Paypal dispute depending on what they say.

You're quite correct. Standard parcels are not tracked, not signed for and no proof of delivery is provided. The seller should have proof of postage but even that is not absolutely certain. I agree with Wilco. Start a claim through Paypal. If the sender cannot provide proof of delivery then you should 'win' and Paypal will refund your money...assuming it is still available in the seller's account.

Yep, he may have proof of posting but nothing that can be tracked if it's standard parcels. Think id' check with him via which method exactly he's sent it (especially if you've paid for a tracked method) and start a paypal claim. You can always cancel it if the parcel turns up or if he has sent it via a tracked method and it's a misunderstanding
