Was off sick from work yesterday and flicking through the channels on freeview, spotted this showing on ITV4? since when do ITV show BBC shows?

Re: Goodnight Sweetheart

ITV have been showing BBC shows for a long time...and the reverse is true too. A good example of the reverse being the BBC showing the Jeremy Brett version of Sherlock Holmes or BBC3 showing the Avengers. All either side has to do is pay for the right to show them. The BBC gets a lot of money from selling TV series to other companies. Everyone knows about this happening Worldwide but often forget that there is a local market in the UK too. After the BBC, or ITV, has shown a series a few times and doesn't want to run it again they can generate additional revenue by selling a license to show it to one of the commercial companies who need a relatively cheap way of filling their programme schedules. I hope you didn't think ITV were getting the shows for free ?

What, and have the viewers complain about them showing even more repeats On a slightly more serious note, the are rules in place about the BBC using their new digital channels to show repeats. They have to feature mainly new, first run stuff which is why they are now trying out new comedies and the like on BBC3 before relocating it to BBC2 or BBC1. It is also one of the reasons there is so much first run rubbish appearing on those channels. Small budget = low quality
