I think I know the one you mean...and I think I know the title too  It was called 'Project UFO'. It was supposed to be based on the actual so-called 'Blue Book' investigations/case histories carried out by the USAF into UFO sightings across the country. Each episode started with a UFO sighting by a regular member of the public which the two man investigation team would then show demonstrate to be a perfectly normal event that had been misinterpreted by the observer. I use to watch this too, late Saturday night. Gary Cole played Jack Killian.
At the end of every episode he uttered these words;- This is Jack Killian, the Nighthawk, on KJCM, 98.3, and good night America... wherever you are...
