Re: Sharp XV-Z100 Home Cinema Projector £234.99 @ Misco
Had a discussion about this on another forum. No digital HD input (although it has analogue component inputs that must accept HD signalling), but then it's not worth getting for HD anyway, as it's only 480 resolution, which is even lower than UK TV standard resolution (576).
Still a great price for DLP projector with true widescreen, as long as you factor in the possible extra costs of screen, sound system, long cabling, ceiling mounting, blocking out external light in your room (the bigger the picture, the less bright it is) and replacement lamps. To an uncritical eye, as long as you sit well back, even a large picture should look fine, as long as you use S-Video or the component inputs. A cheap DLP model may be more susceptible to "rainbow effect", so do more research on this in the AV Forums, DigitalSpy, etc.
The lamp cost is especially important, as although it may be rated to last as long as 3000 hours, they usually don't (at least, not in my experience), plus the manufacturers usually cover themselves with a separate lamp warranty of just a few months or a few hundred hours. Misco give you a good idea of replacement costs on the same page, at the mo it's cheaper to buy another projector!
