Not exactly sure if this qualifies as a bargain, but the QVC Outlet store at Birchwood Warrington currently has a supply of Ventura SHD7001E HD-DVD players on sale for just £55. The price includes an HDMI cable and two films, Hulk and Troy. I have no first-hand knowledge of how good, bad or indifferent this particular player is but I did find an online review for it which suggests it is OK but not great:

Just in case anyone is still looking for a cheap HD-DVD player, I was in Birchwood Shopping Centre earlier today and saw that the QVC outlet there still has a pile of these to sell but they've now dropped the price to £29.99 Very tempted to buy one of these and one of the Star Trek First series HD-DVD/DVD combi sets. That would be less than just buying a regular up-scaling DVD player
