Led Zepplin meets Country

What happens when you mix a bit of country with a bit of Led Zeppelin.....?

The reviews said:

Plant has been a restless spirit and this album is a celebration of his diversity

this is a truly great collection of songs

my favourite record of the year so far

music's most unlikely partnerships, and in doing so create a memorableand diverse collection of lovingly crafted songs
So, this is Robert Plant and Alison Krauss: Raising Sand
I love Krauss's music, I've collected all her albums so had to buy this one too.
Listened to it last night for the first time.
here's the track listing:
1. Rich Woman (Dorothy LaBostrie-McKinley Millet)
2. Killing the Blues (Rowland Salley)
3. Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us (Sam Phillips)
4. Polly Come Home (Gene Clark)
5. Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On) (Phil and Don Everly)
6. Through the Morning, Through the Night (Gene Clark)
7. Please Read The Letter (Robert Plant-Michael Lee-Jimmy Page-Charlie Jones)
8. Trampled Rose (Tom Waits-Kathleen Brennan)
9. Fortune Teller (Naomi Neville)
10. Stick With Me Baby (Mel Tillis)
11. Nothin' (Townes Van Zandt)
12. Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson (Milt Campbell)
13. Your Long Journey (A.D. Watson and Rosa Lee Watson)

So, is this possibly the best album so far this year....sorry, but my reply would be "is it heck!"
You know that scene in "And Now For Something Completely Different" where Palin is describing Accountancy: "It's dull, dull, dull, desperatley dull" That was my first thought.

Hard to admit after liking Krauss's other albums, and in particular her excellent duets on A Hundred Miles Or More, but this was either the most mellow album of all time or the most unmemorable. I really can't recall one tune. I just remember it starting, and remember when it finished and Sara Evans started playing and thinking what a relief! It really does just drift by in the most hushed whispering way. I was'nt even sure where the songs started and ended. Maybe it hypnotised me? I'm not a big fan of LZ, but I am of AK, but where with other duets the voices have played of each other and enhanced some great storytelling, in this album I could'nt tell you any of the stories, if there were any, and there voices certainly dont spark each other...more like cancel each other out?
Anyway, all the reviews I've read praise it, so I must be wrong. Try it for yourself and see.
