Edinburgh Film Festival

Is anyone else hoping to go to the Edinburgh Film Festival?

I used to be a regular, but have seldom got at all in recent years.

I figured this year I'd concentrate on on the interviews etc, Funds are very limited and I'll be able to see most of the films free with my Unlimited card sooner or later.

Managed to get tickets for the Alan Arkin, Arthur Penn and Steven Soderberg talks and The Night Listener premier.

Missed out on Kevin Smith, but was really lucky getting tickets for Sean Connery's interview - don't think many actually went on sale. I had to phone the Fest with a question and mentioned the SC tickets, and the girl almost got hysterical! Apparently I was the only person that they had heard of who actually got tickets!

Now I just have to hope the turn up OK - No email acknowledgement yet for some. [-o<

This seems to be just about the least read thread ever!

Ah, well, I'm probably the dullest member. :(

Alan Arkin has cancelled his appearance.

But I did get tickets for Sigourney Weaver's talk!

I'm not sure anyone is reading these, just about the least thread on the forum, but anyway....

Brian De Palma has just been added to the line-up. This is by a long way the biggest year for personal appearances for a very long time. I think there had been a number of complaints that the guests were getting increasingly obscure, especially considering the star-studded line-up of other festivals.

I would have thought De Palma's presence could suggest that the Surprise Film might be The Black Dahlia.

Well I'm gonna make the arduous journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh a few times this year for a few movies.

PS I think you are correct, The Black Dahlia is almost certain to be the surprise movie.

Thanks folks; glad I'm not alone here.

I'm travelling trough from Glasgow as well, and dreading it, especially De Palma, Penn and Connery which are consecutive days. At least I can take a bit of time, so I'm abandoning the car this year and trying the bus. I hope, after talking about it, I actually make it.

I would still put my money on The Black Dahlia but there have been previous occassions where a PA made a certain film an almost sure thing for the Surprise Film and it didn't happen. David Cronenberg comes immediately to mind - the audience was sure it was going to be Crash, and if memory serves, it was Analyze This!

Cheers Blunty - hopefully won't just be lots of gossip about missed busses, trafic jams, alarm clocks not going off etc.!!!

Meant to return your earlier question about cinema going - are you a multiplex/arthouse man yourself? And do you find Cinemas a hassle these days?

Not really the right thread, but I'm pretty sure we aren't getting in anyones way here.

I'm not a regular cinema goer of any type any more...just can't stand a lot of the other people!

Indie cinemas are better...the cornerhouse in manchester is good.
