Finally gotten rounf to watching 'The Invasion' after it lying round for weeks from lovefilm
All the way through watching it was thinking 'ohh, this is better than i expected' but ended up thinking 'was that it?' by time it's finished. Just wasn't much to the story and would have liked to have seen more Daniel Craig too

The Dark Knight

Leaving it so long before watching a big film leaves you open to inflated expectations from reviews, hype and friends opinions. So we went into this expecting something extra special and because of that it didn't quite get there. Moral of the story - watch the big films sooner.

Not saying it was a bad film - far from it. I did rather enjoy it even if it was 15-20mins overlong (probably an action piece or two too much). Ledger stole the show from everyone else and for me this is what the film will be remembered for. A good addition to the Batman franchise.

8/10

Iron Man

Another super hero movie and the first installment of probably a couple more to come and for that reason it was standard fare but ultimately really enjoyable. RD Jr was perfect for the role and the script / acting kept it light hearted in a way that makes these super-hero movies lots of fun. I could see it becoming a bit formulaic should there be more than one sequel.

8/10

The Duchess

An 18th century period drama snapshot about the real story of Georgiana the Duchess of Devonshire's life starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes.

Typical fare here where costumes and locations set the scene and the script allows quality actors to act to their best and tell a wonderful story to perfection about society at the time. A little slow initially but the talents on display soon come to the fore and the film flies by. Knightly is superb as the Duchess and is only outshone by Fiennes playing to perfection a man of his time. A real show stealer from him - an Oscar nomination ought to follow.

A film for the girls or older generation but if you love to see acting done how it's supposed to be then don't rule this out.

9/10

Finally got round to watching "The Happening".

What can I say? I actually quite liked it, but the acting (particularly from Mark Wahlberg) was shockingly bad, the dialogue was suspect at best, the atmosphere and filmography were terrible. And where was the twist? The whole film was just so flat and plodding.

Overall:

Well, that would be telling.........

To be honest, I'm working on a way to do reviews easily, and I've created some custom BB codes to display the star ratings.

Feel free to use them if you like - to use them, simply use the following BBCodes - REPLACE THE CURLY BRACKETS WITH SQUARE BRACKETS.

{0star}{/0star}
{0.5star}{/0.5star}
{1star}{/1star}
{1.5star}{/1.5star}
{2star}{/2star}
{2.5star}{/2.5star}
{3star}{/3star}
{3.5star}{/3.5star}
{4star}{/4star}
{4.5star}{/4.5star}
{5star}{/5star}

Deception - Was quite disappointed considering the film had both Ewan McGregor AND Hugh Jackman in. Was a standard sort of double twist thriller type film which would have been much better if all the film had been like the second half.

Just watched "Death Race" (Jason Statham).

Actually, it was better than I was expecting. Of course, when you watch this type of movie, you know exactly what you are gonna get, but it's done with a certain amount of style.

It's clear within the first 20 minutes of the film what the ending is going to be, but just turn off your brain and enjoy.

Incredible Hulk (2)

Watched this on the plane to Florida - not bad, thought it was better than the first one but they should really end the franchise now.

Cactus
Watched this on the flight back. Quite an enjoyable Aussie road flick about a guy who kidnaps (for a fee) some bloke who has done wrong across the Australian outback. Well worth checking out.

Hot potato hot potato.

Burn After Reading

Saw this last night at the cinema and can say it's another cracking film by the Coen Brothers. All the ingredients that go into making a spy/comedy/thriller/farce are finely tuned in equal measures so much so that the film seemd to be over 5 minutes after it started.

Highly recommended.

Quantum of Solace. I hated it! I've never been so disappointed in a film. Its wall to wall action, filmed and edited virtually incomprehensibly fast. No interest in plot or character. I went with a group of Bond veterans - we've been at every Regional Premier since 1977. We were unanimous that this was the worst Bond ever, by far - something I didn't think it possible to agree on. For the first time it was met by complete silence at the end and a dejected audience. Every other Bond was applauded. Casino Royale virtually got a standing ovation.

Some people on the net seem to have liked it, but I genuinely don't know why. I found it the first Bond film that was actually incompetent. I hope those of you going enjoy, but "my" audience clearly didn't. And I so wanted to.
