Casino Royale

What can I say? Not quite as good an experience on dvd (despite the nice dts tracK) but it doesn't take much away from the greatness of this flick.
Daniel Craig is superb, it's good there is no Q etc
Not just a great bond film...but a great action film full stop.

Heaven

Decent movie considering the amount of talent involved...any project written by kieslowski, directed by tykwer and produced by minghella and pollack is gonna go great guns.
I truly believe Cate Blanchett is the finest actress around.

Call me shallow but if the DVD still has Daniel Craig in tini-tiny shorts or just Daniel Craig in general really, i'll be just as happy with it

The Departed

Enjoyed it...best marty film since goodfellas? yep. jack nicholson as good as ever? yep.
Mark Wahlberg vastly overrated performance? yep.
It was everything I knew it was gonna be...marty is head and shoulders above (nearly) all other contenders...he translated infernal affairs into a nice film.
It wasn't quite as good as Infernal Affairs, both in narrative nor pay-off.
I will deffo watch it again...mainly as I said to Mr Nicholson's wonderous performance.
Oh and watch out for Ray Winstone's awful accent!

Thats exactly how I felt about it - very good, but just a little bit less so than Infernal Affairs.

Incidentally, I haven't heard this mentioned so I suppose this can't be a first, but has any other remake ever one best film? There are things like Ben Hur etc which were different versions of another source, but I can't off-hand think of another out-and-out remake.

Just got back from the pictures - took the little'un to see Charlottes Web. Didn't like it to be honest - too cheesy. But the daughter loved it.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny

Good fun if you are a fan of the band and/or Jables.
I still think the HBO tv show was the best thing they have done.
Nice cameos too (robbins, grohl, hanks jr)

Re: Just watched film thread

A few cinema films this week -

A preview of Amazing Grace, from Michael Apted, about the fight to abolish slavery in the UK. Very good, with an excellent cast; perhaps just a very little bit "dull but worthy" but still recommended if you like period or political dramas. It opens next week I think.

After The Wedding - excellent Oscar nominated Danish drama with Mads Mikelson - highly recommended, if you can find it anywhere.

and Norbit. Good grief - I really should have known better and listened to the reviews this time. Unfunny and mean spirited (although technically well done). My friend laughed once. And that was once more than me!
