Eisenheim The Illusionist
Brilliant performance by Edward Norton. Jessica Biel was lovely, as always. Considering the movie was based on a short story, I would say they managed to pull it off quite nicely. Very, very good screen writing. I even liked the flaky, Austrian accent that the actors managed to keep up during the entire movie.
8/10

The Godfather Part II
Glad I started this one early :), enjoyed this alot more than the Godfather which I watched last week, thought De Niro's portrayal of a young Vito was awesome.
Uncle Buck
Always fun to watch and a perfect way to finish a Sunday, although I always get sad when watching John Candy movies, can't believe he died 12 years ago, he really was a great character.

Re: Just watched film thread
Idiocracy
Liking Beavis & Butthead is a must if you are even going to contemplate putting this Mike Judge creation on display in your home cinema. If you do, you should be in for some very low humor, not subtle, not masterful acting (lets face it, it's luke wilson. He couldn't act if someone paid him to do it.). Anyways, me and the wife were both entertained in a strange kind of way, so I give it a mediocre score (with a + for effort).
6+/10.

Re: Just watched film thread
Saw Smokin' Aces. I enjoyed it a lot, although not quite as much as Keyser. I thought it a bit too fast and uneven in tone to be as involving as it could have been. It was an entertaining blast, but I didn't really care about anyone. It was sort of slightly sub Tarantino, surprising from the Director of Narc.
Was also at a "Surprise Movie" preview which turned out to be Dreamgirls. Not quite my cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. Its a more traditional musical/ biopic (although fictionalised) than, say, Moulin Rouge, which set the bar for modern musicals for me. It somehow reminded me of Walk The Line, but for soul music. The audience seemed very divided though. Most of the songs are stage performances etc, but in the few scenes where the characters are singing in dramatic scenes (rather than in performances, if you see what I mean) quite a proportion of the audience were repeatedly laughing out loud! Are modern audiences that unused to the musical genre? Perhaps it was as a result of it being a film that those people wouldn't have chosen to see. Some of the dialog provoked unintentional laughter as well, particularly Jamie Foxx's "You'll always be 16 to me" line. I thought the film would be better received than it seemed to be - it was better than I had expected (I intended to see it eventually anyway).

Re: Just watched film thread
Children of Men
Absolutely, Positively the biggest pile of...NAH!!!!
It was awesome!
I loved the realism of the whole film...everything felt like it probably would.
The cast was pretty great...I like clive owen more and more, caine and moore didn't have much to do but they are always good value for money.
Danny Huston is a great underrated actor.
Highly recommended to anyone who loves thrillers or dystopian future films.

Re: Just watched film thread
The long continuous takes of action scenes in Children Of Men really blew me away. I went to see it a second time at the cinema just to savour them, especially the scene in the car and the battle near the end. How DID they do them??? Were they faked using special effects? I was hoping that the DVD would have a commentary discussing them but as it doesn't, and the film is still in US cinemas, I'm holding off in hope of additional features.
I see the R2 has a featurette, but that can mean anything, from a 2min TV spot to an hour long detailed making of. Did you watch it by any chance Blunty?
I loved the film, but on a technical level, those scenes blew me away, I think especially as they were in such a gritty film.

Re: Just watched film thread
funny you should say that...as it was the only special feature I gave it a watch
7 mins long only but it does show how they pioneered the car scene and the explosion scene
