She thought it was turd but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

Well worth a look...
I watched on Sunday, I think I get a bit too involved with it, getting slightly carried away with the music.

What's your favourite part of the film?

I think mine is the whole army truck fight/chase thing

The beginning is so classic, with the whole Paramount mountain and Indy running away from the giant stone ball, and then the music cutting in, "I hate snakes," you can't beat it. :)

Raider is just so full of classic moments, but I think you two nailed my favourites, plus the, ahem, "sword fight" in the market (so as not to spoil it, just in case anyone has never seen it.

I've been a bit lax in posting about recent films - most have been just so-so, although Little Man is spectacularly bad and tasteless.

But I just have to put in a good word for Snow Cake, a very small drama with a lot of dry wit, starring Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and Carrie Ann Moss. It was one of my big regrets that I couldn't afford to see at the Edinburgh Festival. Its not doing much business here, but is being released in the US in December to best qualify for Oscars. Its a deeply sad and occasionaly funny film; very moving and finally uplifting, but not in a schmaltzy way. Its very slow, so won't be for everyone, but if it sounds like remotely your sort of thing, I urge you to see it.

At the other end of the spectrum is Crank, a fast dumb adrenelin action rush, with Jason Statham. If you liked The Transporter, I would recommend this. At least it has a touch more originality than Trans 2. My only criticism really (apart from its shallowness, but thats as it should be really) is that its filmed in 1.85:1, and I think would look like a much "bigger" film (excuse the pun) in widescreen. I don't understand why some directors choose to still film what are fairly "visual" films in small screen, although I suppose they end up looking better on DVD (which may be the reason, but I would have thought that the more impressive in cinemas, the better. And does anyone chose DVDs by screen format? Well, maybe in America!).

Virgin Suicides

Fantastic little movie which I loved, but really got to me at the same time, great performances from Kathleen Turner, Woods and Kirsten Dunst with stunning cinematography and a real dreamlike feel to it all. One of the best soundtracks to a movie, really added to the atmosphere.

The soundtrack is a must buy for me now.

Had a great weekend at the cinema -

After loving SnowCake on Friday, Saturday's was Little Miss Sunshine - a family-road-trip-from-hell comedy with Greg Kinear, Steve Carell, Toni Collete, Paul Dano, Alan Arkin and a very talented 10 year old called Abigail Breslin. I list the entire main cast because they were all magnificnt. I really can't praise this high enough. I found it hilarious (although I was the only one laughing out loud as much, something I don't usually do). But its funny in a real way, rather than the usual "sit-com, this is meant to be funny" way, and has many very touching dramatic moments as well.

My film of the year so far. A delight, and I urge everyone to see it.

As I'm not a fan of the cinema i'm gonna buy LMS as soon as it's out on dvd...seen nothing but good reviews!

Watched Return of the Jedi last night...it's quite easy to pick on the film but it's still fun

Me too! I really liked it that much. I thought it would be good, but wasn't expecting to love it quite as much as I do. I should point out, in fairness, that its appeal isn't down just to its humour - I found it very funny, others might find it less so, but it is much more than just another cookie-cutter US comedy.

I'm gutted now that cash concerns kept me from the premier in Edinburgh.
