Silent Hill

**/*****

I've never played the game, I vaguely remember hearing about it before but my knowledge of the world of Silent Hill stops at the name. Thought the film was overly long, wasn't all that scary (maybe that is more to do with the fact that I didn't really know what was happening) and was rather repetitive.

The only reason I give it 2 stars is because I have to admit that some of the scenes looked impressive. Maybe if I knew more about the game then I would understand better but I haven't really an inkling as to what was supposed to have happened at the end. :?

I can only guess...

EDIT: Forgot to add that I liked the idea of a woman-centric horror, most horror movies I can think of are based around men. What was the purpose of Sean Bean in this movie anyway? :? He really had one of the most meaningless roles I can think of!

An American Haunting – interesting film and some good jumpy moments, felt let down by the ending. If you rent this I would advise you to watch the 4 alternative endings, I much preferred one of the endings from that than the original one. I’m still left with questions about this film, certain things don’t make sense.

The Dark – Watching this in a lot of parts felt similar to Silent Hill and yes it’s got Sean Bean in it as well. It’s ok, nothing special, don’t know why they chose Wales for the setting, probably because it ties in with the sheep. Another film where the ending was slightly confusing as well.

Firewall – not as good as I thought it would be. Average run of the mill thriller with predictable ending.

Half light – I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this film because Demi Moore is in it but actually, not too bad. Interesting storyline, set in a remote location in Scotland, supernatural thriller. I’d give it about 6.5/10, worth a watch.

Rollin with the nines – If I was asked to show someone what street life in London is like I would recommend this film. There is no glamorisation of drugs or guns like they do in Hollywood, this film keeps it real. Warning – there is a rape scene in this film that some may find disturbing.

Prison Break Eps 7-22

Had a busy couple of days watching this whilst trying to squeeze work in between.

Overall, I found it a very entertaining piece...I just can't believe they didn't make it a 1 season show! What's it gonna be? Next stop Alcatraz... :?

Just you wait young bocco!

Just watched;

Quai des Orfevres

Enjoyed it. Amazing how such a little plot can make such a good film.

I was maybe a tad hard on Prison Break, I did enjoy it very much but wanted some sort of resolution after watching it solidly for about 10 hours!

You have been watching many fine French films recently...there really is nothing much better than that.

May I recommend as your next French purchase:

Port Of Shadows. Watched this recently and it is very good, creates a really good atmosphere.

Playtime Criterion

*****/*****

Absolute classic. Highly experimental movie which is funny, interesting and techinically masterful. Lovely new transfer as well...I was that interested that I might even stick in the 2nd disc and watch the Tati documentary instead of another episode of Lost - high praise indeed!

We watched Memoirs of a Geisha last night, although a bit slow to begin with I soon got used to the pace of it and thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was also the most colourful film I've seen since Moulin Rouge with stunning cinematography - loved the dance sequence shots. Not surprised that Spielberg produced it either.

Alphaville

Not quite as confusing as 2001:ASO (what is?) but quite crazy...

Yojimbo

Stunning...I liked seven samurai, but I really think rashomon and yojimbo are better films
