Thought it was not too bad actually, I wasn't excpecting much to be honest so was pleasantly surprised. It is not a film I will rush to rewatch but it was entertaining enough.
Yep, I watched this on Thursday for the first time, and found it more entertaing than I was expecting also. Some bits were a bit fast for me, and the fact that you couldn't see V speaking intially drove me a bit crazy, but I got used to it. Being 2 hours long as well, I thought once it got going it went pretty quickly, but i'm glad I didn't fork out £30+ for that fancy set. :)
The King - only rented this from Blockbusters over the weekend as I had a free rental voucher and it was full of rave reviews on the front cover - beware - it is a pile of sh*te. The storyline is quite simply, young army guy is discharged, goes to look for his old man, finds him, he doesn't want to know as he already has a family and they are all bible bashers, army guy sleeps with his half-sister, kills his half-brother for no reason, sis gets preggers, he tells her he killed her bro and she's cool with it, he moves into the family home and basically takes over the role of the brother he killed. Dad has a change of heart, tells the whole church he has an illegitimate son, daughter tells mum she's preggers, army guy murders mum and daughter and then goes to his dad's church and says he wants to be saved. The end.
Fine film from Renoir. Didn't enjoy it as much as La Grande Illusion but that is a pretty special film.
Easy to see how this film has influenced films over the years (most recently i'd guess at gosford park)
Very cool flick...look forward to watching Bob le Flambeur now...amazing lack of dialogue for the majority of the film, but the way he moves and his actions are just so cool.
