Did the trailer have you expecting something different, or did you just not care for it? A fair number of people seem to have felt mislead. In fact there are a lot of shocked people on the IMDb that a film called The Break-up is actually about a couple breaking up! I think the tone of the trailer may have contributed to this.
I love Rom-coms but I went to this expecting it to be a lot funnier. I went and watched it and did enjoy it, just wanted it to be funnier as I love Vince.

:)

V for Vendetta last night

I absolutely loved it, I haven't read the graphic novel (although I will at some stage as I got it with my R3) so can't compare to it but I just loved it.

'V' was brilliant, at times scary but very charming and a very interesting character. I was rooting for him the whole way through the film

Can't wait to get the mask now. 8)

I might give that V For Vendetta a bash...

Anyway, last couple of days I have had off work so been watching loads.

Elevator To The Gallows - excellent stuff, Jeanne Moreau is stunning the esoteric plot line is paced perfectly and the music score is incredible. Perfect film.

*****/*****

Time Bandits - hadn't seen this in ages so decided to put it on, can't say I was disappointed. It really is a heartwarming film.

****/*****

Hamlet (Olivier Version) - still the best adaptation of a Shakespeare play, apart from maybe Olivier's other masterpeice Richard III.

****/*****

Hidden (Cache) - I really liked the coldness of this film if that doesn't sound too weird. The camera offers no opinion on the action that it shows, it is left totally up to you as the viewer to bring what you want to the movie and I thought this was a very bold but successful move from Haneke. I'd highly recommend this movie.

****/*****

Just gonna watch some of the Curb your Enthusiasm I received today...Haven't seen any of S5 yet so am looking forward to it!

Yeah, I liked it in the sense that there is no real way to end a film like this. There are no "happily ever after" options available to the director so why not just turn the camera on the next generation of adults with childhood secrets/guilt?

I know some people disliked it but I think it was fitting and worked well. Cyclical, it ends the way it began...

Forgot to mention that I watched Kind Hearts & Coronets yesterday too - how could I forget this one! It is by far the best Ealing film in my opinion, so sharp and biting with its satire and a very good storyline/performances to boot.

The Criterion transfer is absolutely perfect aswell.

I thought Auteil's son would be in there somewhere but have to admit I never clocked them until I listened to the Haneke interview on the disc and rewatched the scene.

Yeah, I have seen most of his films I think, I like Piano Teacher a lot. My fave would have to be Funny Games though, closely followed by this new one.
