Woolworths drop HD-DVD

OK, despite me being very optimistic about the future of HD-DVD (I really want it to succeed!), thinks are looking more grim by the day.

Woolworths have announced that they will be blu-ray only. Not good news.

If Woolworth's figures in the article of Blu-ray out-selling HD-DVD disks by 10 to 1 are correct and have been experienced by other retailers over the same period, then I think HD-DVDs days are well and truly numbered here in the UK. Sorry Wilko

I still think a dual format player for a PC, I linked to one in the other thread, might be a good investment though

Yeah, it would be a good idea. However, I don't have room for my PC in the living room any more, so it would mean buying a small form factor media PC that is virtually silent for the living room - and they ain't cheap.

So it looks like a PS3 then.

Errr.......

Good point. Although, they do have one of the biggest market shares for general DVD sales, because Average Joe buys his DVD's there.

But Average Joe doesn't even know that HD-DVD and Blu-ray exist, so it's not such a bad thing really.
