Hi Def Tellys

Can anyone recommend a 32" HD 1080P (not i) - and preferably with at least 2 HDMI slots - telly?

I fancied a Toshiba one as I can get one through our works affiliate scheme quite a bit cheaper but they don't do (AFAIK) a 32", 37" being the smallest - which is too big for where I want it to go.

Not sure whether it's worth paying the extra for a 1080P 32" screen. I'd go for a 720P/1080I screen for that size.

I was going to recommend the Toshiba Regza Z Series LCD TVs but they start at 37"

This is the one I've got pencilled in to replace my current DLP one once the bulb goes ...if it goes.

Having talked to the wife about it tonight, she's of the opinion the 37" won't look too big so I should go for that one, and if it is too big we'll stick it in our bedroom.

She also said I should order so we get it in time for Chrimbo and then pay it off when my bonus comes through. Woo hoo.

Need to check the price at work tomorrow then.

I'm sure they had the tosh z series on offer at digital direct, I think there was a post on Hotukdeals about it, but if you get a decent discount from work then it's happy days.

Hmmm I can't decide now between the X series or the Z series. Obviously the Z series is better as it has the 100hz scan and a few other extras but is it worth the extra cash?

FWIW I can get the 37" X series for £600 and the Z for £950.

I know if I get the X I'll be wishing I'd got the Z and if I get the Z I can't afford a PS3. Hmmm decisions decisions.

Additionally I can get the HD-DVD EP30 for £165 and the EP-35 for £245 but I'm going to try and hold off on those until there are mulitregion versions available.

The Z's have 5:5 pull down and a very good 24fps playback so when you do get a PS3/Bly ray or HD-DVD player you'll not get any judder seen on some sets.

You'll definitely regret not getting the Z especially at that price ;) ...no doubt a new set will be out by the time you've decided.

I had a long lecture from a friend of mine the other day about 24fps playback and all the fudges that are put in place to try and make it work. At the end of the day, it seems that the best way to watch 24fps is to watch an actual film being shown in a cinema. Next best option is to watch it played back at 25fps on your TV at home and live with it ending a little sooner than you'd expected/planned. Everything else is a just a fudge. He works for a well known Japanese electronics company providing technical training and testing and he is sick to death of explaining at length exactly what the reality of the situation is to reviewers who call to ask why/when their sets will support 1080p 24fps.

He also pointed out that film companies release films in 24fps format to save them a lot of money doing a proper conversion to true TV compatible speeds whilst at the same time being able to charge gullible members of the public extra for the supposed benefits of having a 'true 24fps' print on their HiDef disks

It seems there's an awful lot of BS being thrown around in this area
