Buying a new DVD to find it covered in scratches...

To quote the great Peter Griffin "this really grinds my gears".

I just bought Clerks 3 disc and Batman Begins 2 disc in the past few days and both look like they've been molested. They're brand new and sealed, so what's with that?

From which retailer?

I've bought games/dvds which have had the same thing happen to them.

Blimey! I have a habit of leaving discs sealed until I'm ready to watch them, so that, if I was desperate, I could re-sell them as new. But I think its something I'd better stop.

There have been reports here of Amazon Jersey selling returns etc, and I've had a couple of bad examples from Blah, but never from HMV. And I have Clerks X from them, still sealed!

jeepers I keep most of my dvd's sealed until I watch them but this is worrying as most of mine would be too hold to return.

there are now a number of people/companies offering re sealing services now particular on ebay there are certain disney sellers that buy loads of used disney dvds then reseal them and sell for new.

so u have to be careful on there as well with new stuff

I brought the Alien Quadrilogy from Amazon Jersey when it was really cheap, definitely a re-seal (and not a good one) and tons of wear on it, the inside case was even in upside down!

Soon as I receive DVDs I slice open the edge with a razor blade to get to the inside bits - leaving the rest of the plastic covering the case, check the contents are all there and are in A+ condition. Then put them on the evergrowing pile of "ones to watch".
