Re: Anime Bargains

Ahh right. I found my screenshot of the receipt after I'd posted, so I was reassured that I'd actually ordered them and not dreamt it.

Yup, ordered those two and picked up the first volume as well from Play. Was tempted by the neon genesis, but then decided to stay away from that whole area until I've caught up with the rest. Although we all know that it never happens like that.....

Re: Anime Bargains

I'm a sucker for cute anime girls with guns, so I've risked plumping for the available Madlax disks - thanks Aionic!

I stand by my comment about Noir. It was stretched out to the full 26 episodes but could easily have delivered in half that time. The stylised action scenes were largely the same and ended up being dull, and the ‘Leon’ homages got irritating really fast. Plus, having waded through so many filler episodes the ending had to be spectacular - and it wasn't. Maybe it’s just my needing substance as well as style, but the whole thing left me cold. And there wasn’t even any fanservice to spice things up a bit!

A lot of my annoyance towards this show stems from the fact it was stretched out to 7 disks, and the resulting price. I know they’re all like this, but the massive amounts of recycled footage in this show added insult to injury. I’ll keep buying Chinese boots until we get full series box sets at reasonable prices. I’m not interested in poor yank dubs and don’t wish to pay through the nose for them. I have upgraded some of my boots with R1 thinpak editions, which eventually drop to a nicer price. Hopefully this trend will continue.

I had forgotten how wonderful the score for Noir was, though. I think I ended up buying all the soundtracks albums.

I can’t access Youtube from work – I’ll try to remember to check that link out at home.

Re: Anime Bargains

Robotech - Macross Saga Complete Series Box Set - £8.49

Next Best = £16.89

Note: This was up on HMV's site at £6.99 a couple months back so you may find a cheaper one kicking about the forums or eBay.

No idea what this one is but it is cheap

Tactics - Series 1 Part 1 - £9.99

Next Best = £21.75

Note: It isn't (the US?) Ghost in the Shell 2ng Gig Boxset as shown in the pics.

Re: Anime Bargains

Anyone that can find me a cheap (non bootlegged) version of the paranoia agent series will be a legend in my eyes.  Individual DVDs or the boxset are both fine and I don't mind about the region (not the chinese version).  £29.08 is as low as I've found new (boxset @ foxy with £2 voucher) or about £23 2nd-hand.

Re: Anime Bargains

The Paranoia Agent box set is just as expensive in the US, with a cooler looking box. You'll have a hard job finding it cheap outside of mis-prices and HMV anime price drops right now... Add it to your Find-DVD watchlist and pray.

Sorry to ask this, but you don't happen to work for the store with the two above bargains, right?

It's a little strange that someone managed to find deals for something as neglected as anime on a website that isn't listed on the most popular DVD price comparison website.

Re: Anime Bargains

Nope. I found the store via google checkout on the misunderstanding that the £10 off £30 was still going on. They've a huge selection of anime but not much in the way of bargains. There were a couple of series with volumes for £5.99 each but nothing that I'd heard of. Also a couple of familiar series at £7.99 each (but I don't consider that a bargain).

I'll give the Find-DVD watchlist a go...maybe for Gungrave too.

Edit: Just caved in and ordered Paranoia Agent off eBay for £22

Re: Anime Bargains

Fair enough then, will add your deals to ze first post.

Btw, Gungrave is an awesome series, my 2nd favourite anime. I own the R1 box set after paying £45 + £20 customs for it.

Re: Anime Bargains

Akira: Ultimate Edition - £4.99
Next best = £6.99

Full Metal Panic!
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 01 - £5.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 02 - £5.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 03 - £5.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 04 - £5.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 05 - £5.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 06 - £7.99
Full Metal Panic! - Mission 07 - £7.99

Next best = £13.99 for 4 out of the 7, £13.47 for Vol. 7.

Find-DVD hasn't got Vol. 4 or Vol. 6 listed and DVD PriceCheck is too **** to check with. But, going on the other prices, there's a 99.9% chance they have the same £5 and £7 price gap all the other volumes do.

Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU: Vol.1 - Full Metal Pandemonium -- £5.99
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU: Vol.2 - Full Metal Fracas! -- £5.99
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU: Vol.3 - Full Metal Fervor! -- £5.99
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU: Vol.4 - Full Metal Mania! -- £5.99

Next best = £7.82 for Vol. 1, £9.89 for the other 3.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence - £5.99
Next best = £7.99

Gungrave: Vol.1 - Beyond the Grave - £5.99
Next best = £9.49

Hellsing
Hellsing - Vol. 1: Impure Souls -- £5.99
Hellsing - Vol. 2: Blood Brothers -- £5.99
Hellsing - Vol. 3: Search And Destroy -- £5.99
Hellsing - Vol. 4: Eternal Damnation -- £5.99

Next best: £7.97 + £1.45 delivery for Vol. 1&2, £7.99 for Vol. 3 and £8.97 + £1.45 delivery for Vol. 4.

Keep in mind that the best price for the Hellsing box set is currently £36.25.

Last Exile
Last Exile: Vol.1 - First Move -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.2 - Positional Play -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.3 - Discovered Attack -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.4 - Breakthrough -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.5 - Grand Stream -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.6 - Queen Delphine -- £5.99
Last Exile: Vol.7 - Sealed Move -- £5.99

Next best = £9.97 + £1.45 delivery for Vol. 1, 6 and 7 and £9.99 for the others.

Buying all 7 volumes works out cheaper than buying the (presumably) crappy M-lock box set.

Le Chevalier D'Eon
Le Chevalier D'Eon: Vol.1 - £5.99
Le Chevalier D'Eon: Vol.2 - £5.99

Next best: £13.47 (both)

Ninja Scroll 10th Anniversary Edition (R2, 2-disk) - £5.99
Next best = £7.49

Rahxephon - Vol. 5: Synaesthesia -- £5.99
Rahxephon - The Motion Picture -- £5.99

Next best: £13.47 (both)

Read or Die
Read or Die - £5.99
Read or Die: Vol. 1 - £5.99
Read or Die: Vol. 2 - £5.99

Next best = £7.99 for the movie and £11.97 + £1.45 for Vol. 2.

Vol. 1 isn't listed on Find-DVD. There's a pretty high chance HMV will have the best price by some distance going on the price of Vol. 2, but you might want to check for yourself.

Trigun: Vol.1 - The Sixty Billion Double Dollar Man -- £5.99
Next best = £9.99

Vampire Hunter D - £5.99
Next best = £7.99

God, I feel drained after doing that. Never again! >_<

I'd just like to mention that HMV are also selling all of Excel Saga for £5.99 each. Didn't list those since the (presumably) M-lock box set is currently cheaper to buy at £32.99, which unsurprisingly is another HMV deal.

All these huge differences in prices conclusively prove 3 things:

1: Anime is retardly over-priced in the UK. There can be no argument when HMV have so much anime lower in price than other stores all at once.

2: HMV are trying to become the UK anime retailer. They'd be godly in my mind if they hadn't cancelled the Gantz box set mis-price on the very last day, somewhere between 1-2 months after ordering.

3: Only the rich and/or stupid are buying anime at the usual prices.

Re: Anime Bargains

I can whole-heartedly recommend the Hellsing DVDs as money well spent. Beautifully drawn and the plot lines are wonderfully dark.
