Saw it at the cinema and the amount of 'men' squirming in their seats when the two blokes kissed was pathetic, if it was two women they'd of been shuffling around in their pockets for ages.
end of moan, just buy it and watch it and form own opinions. Im buying it for the wife as she thought it was beautiful love story, and nearly cried, which for her was like blood from a stone.

the fact its gay men isnt the reason i wont buy it - its because it is a ''chick flick'' romance film, and i dont like them. Neither does the missus, she prefers Horrors and Thrillers :)

I have to admit I take offence to being labelled a pansy.
I just dont find this film appealing, in just the same way as I have never got around to watching Lock, Stock. Some films do it for you, and some dont.
There are plenty of good films that I have never seen, so this is going nearer the end of the queue, instead of the front :)

It really isn't a "chick flick" romance. That term, to me, conjures up all sorts of "Mills & Boon" and schmaltzy, unrealistic pap. Brokeback is much more of a mood piece, and character study, of specific and very real people, in a very specific time and place. It reminds me most of an early 70s film, something along the lines of what Bob Rafelson or Terrence Mallick might have made.
It IS something you need to be in the mood for - its slow and you need to loose yourself in it - but if you are put off, don't be put off by thinking its something its not. It is neither "chick-flick" schmaltz, nor explicit. Its a genuine, real, adult, character drama - something we rarely see these days. I loved it far more than I expected to.

Damn, I'm falling behind in my literature.
What I was trying to say I think is that it is a genuine drama/character study, rather than melodrama, which I at least would associate with "chic-flic".
It probably isn't to everyones taste, but because its serious and quite slow, rather than anything to do with gender. Its a question of whether you enjoy a genuine, engrossing study of character, place and time. (Last Picture Show is yet another example).
Anyone agree?

I agree grambax. I think it would be a shame to miss seeing this film, just because of the sexuality of the characters involved; the film is about so much more than that.
