Great Old 1930s Cowboy films

Just to secure my place in your minds as being completely crazy I just bought some great dvds really cheap from Amazon Marketplace.

My old dad is pretty much chair bound and I like to find things that surprise and delight him. Not an easy task.

He remembers (dont we all?) those Saturday morning cinema visits as a child - that was the 1930s for him.

Well I bought The Roy Rogers Collection of 20 films (I had the great pleasure to meet Roy himself shortly before he passed away in the mid 1990s at his museum in Victorville California) plus the John Wayne 20 Movie Pack - 7 seemingly region free dvds, 40 short films of approx 50 minute each, all cowboy films, mostly with Gabby Hayes, the quality looks great for their age. All delivered within a week for less than £9 in total!!!!!

Does your Dad like The Lone Ranger? Picked up a four disc set of around 35 episodes from marketplace - great series if he likes Westerns.

Actually MrFisher the Lone Ranger is more my era. You reminded me I have a couple of lone Ranger boxsets plus a Hopalong Cassidy. I must dig them out and compare to the current offerings you mention.

Just noticed the 'Lone Ranger Colour Episodes' is only £10-99 on HMV - loads dearer elsewhere.

I ordered that colour set weeks ago and heard nowt - think it is deleted now :-(

Trouble with the Lone Ranger is that series 1 is in the public domain (that's why there are loads of different releases of it) but the rest are in rights-hell and have never been released on DVD :-(
